Artist Biography
Since childhood, Alyson Jones has been fascinated by the world of creation. Inspired and encouraged by artistic parents and grandparents, Alyson dabbled in everything from illustration to jewelry making at a very young age. Alyson pursued her artistic interests through elementary, junior high, and high schools, where she experimented with an array of art media and techniques. Acrylic painting soon became Alyson’s medium of choice, which she continued to explore during the independent study art classes at Meadowdale High School.
Finding success from local art festivals and competitions, Alyson decided to further pursue her art interests at Western Washington University. After spending her entire freshman year as a declared Drawing and Painting major, Jones decided to change directions.
By Alyson’s sophomore year of college, she had transferred to the University of Washington and had been accepted into the Industrial Design program. Here she hoped to further her artistic knowledge while preparing for a more business-oriented career path. Jones received a BFA in Industrial Design with a minor in Art History from the University of Washington. Alyson maintained her painting skills by working as a part time commissioned painter throughout her college years.
As a college graduate, Jones fought against the stunted economy by starting Alyson Jones Studios in 2008. The freelance business has provided Alyson with a variety of projects in acrylic painting, industrial design, graphic design, photo retouching, and illustration. In addition, Jones recently published, True Hues, an art manual intended for all levels of artists looking to further their knowledge about color recognition and accuracy.
Currently, Alyson is working on an acrylic series titled, Phantasmagoria: Challenging the Real. The completed series is forecasted as 10 to 15 pieces, each exhibiting a surrealist or dream-like subject, yet painted in Jones’s signature, realistic technique. Jones also specializes in photo manipulation and has recently been working on a number of photo composites, or digitally collaged photographs. Alyson is currently living in Seattle and is the assistant coach for the Seattle Academy High School cross country team.
